Kirtan Level 3 is a workshop for those who are reasonably confident at playing kirtan and would like to further develop their skills. Participants are free to sing any kirtans they wish and to practice and experiment in a supportive and friendly environment.
Along with having an open space to be able to practice any kirtans they are currently working on, students will also be learning the skills to be able to facilitate, lead and support a kirtan group.
At the end of the course students will have the skill set to be able to lead a kirtan group in their home, community or any place they would like. Yoga teachers who wish to introduce kirtan and chanting to their students will find that this workshop will give them all the skills needed to be able to competently explain and facilitate kirtan and chanting in their classes.
Students will learn to introduce kirtan and mantra to a group and explain how to practice and the effects and benefits. Along with singing and harmonium, participants will also be encouraged to learn and practice a variety of rhythm and percussion instruments such as drums, tambourine and caratels, adding to their repertoire of kirtan skills and enabling them to support other kirtanists in a group format.
Instruction, support, guidance and feedback will be given by the teachers on an individual basis. This class is taught in a more informal manner than Levels 1 and 2 and participants are given more creative freedom and are encouraged to tune into what feels right for them in their individual expression of kirtan.
Level 3 Kirtan - next course starts April 2012
